Blasting Media Buyer Guide
Steel Shot Size Chart and SAE Grade Selection
Steel shot size affects impact energy, coverage and the surface result. Select the grade together with hardness, equipment type and the required cleaning or peening outcome.
General selection logic
| Buyer objective | Selection direction | Confirm before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Heavy scale or robust castings | Larger shot is normally considered for higher impact | Equipment capacity and acceptable profile |
| General cleaning | Balance impact and coverage | Current media, cycle time and dust level |
| Smaller or delicate parts | Finer shot may improve coverage | Part geometry and required finish |
Do not specify size alone
Send the material being cleaned, contaminant, wheel or air-blast equipment, target cleanliness, surface profile and current media consumption. The supplier can then review grade, hardness and packaging together.
